Maybe we need a restructuring of this page, along the lines of the Robert April redo... I had simply copied most of this from Memory Beta, but ZardoZ was right in bringing up a point in that things like his birthdate aren't strictly canon. Anyone got any objections to a redo?

For those of you that deal with Pike in your stories, do you draw from the novels and comics, or do you have your own histories for him?

I thought about in corporating some material from Burning Dreams into Pendragon, but I was so disappointed with that novel, I think I'll stick with Early Voyages...--TimPendragon 18:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

No objections here. In fact that might be a good rule of thumb for any major/semi-major canon character like this--to separate what's what. Makes it more orderly and clarifies which elements are getting drawn upon, as fan-fic inspiration, and how. Sasoriza AdmTlk 08:39, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree. It's that i was trying to said, that not was explained from were get the info of he. ZardoZ 10:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Links Edit

Tim, why are you adding links to the MB pages? --Kevin W. AdmTlk 20:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Because there's no need for those articles here, but they should be linked to something. If someone decides to write a story using his background from Burning Dreams, we can write a Charlie Pike article here then. In the meantime, linking to Memory Beta seems the most logical course. --TimPendragon 20:46, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
The policy is to simply leave them as text. No link at all. Just look at any of the pages copied from MA. --Kevin W. AdmTlk 20:47, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
I wasn't aware that was policy. When was that decided? I understand in cases where things like deflector shield and Hikaru Sulu are linked to Memory Alpha, when we should have articles for them here. But if someone wants more information on Charlie Pike, for instance, they should be able to just click the link and be taken to Memory Beta. --TimPendragon 20:50, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Is there anyplace that users could find this policy to helps us familiarize ourselves with it? -- Captain M.K.B. 20:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
The specific policy in question can be found in the Manual of Style, under canon episodes. Star Trek Expanded Universe:Style#Canon episodes Also, Tim, that's what the external links section is for. We add links to MA and MB in that section so they can go to the respective articles there and follow the links therein. --Kevin W. AdmTlk 21:02, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
The policy is in place because of how many canon references we have in the articles. It would take an incredibly large amount of time to set every single link. Therefore, we provide one large-span link at the end of every article. --Kevin W. AdmTlk 21:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
