The Trek BBS: Writing Challenges (2023) were a two-month recurring writing challenge, written by the previous challenge's winner, posted to The Trek BBS forums and open to anyone. These were the challenges for 2023.

January/February Challenge: Pets

The writing challenge theme is: Pets. Any Star Trek series, era, canon, non-canon, ships, crews or characters welcome.

March/April Challenge: The Morning After

Two (or three or more) characters, under the influence of some intoxicant (legal, illegal or telepathic/empathic), got it together and had a magnificent night together. But on waking, one (or more) of them is having regrets. Why? And what do they do about it?

May/June Fanfic Challenge - Rebel Scum!

Your challenge for the next two months is to think of a story where a character(s) rebel against authority in some way, whatever their reasons (be they honourable or otherwise). Now this could be a rogue Starfleet officer who steals a starship for some purpose, or an entire crew that uncover a great conspiracy in the upper ranks of Headquarters and choose to expose it, or a Starfleet brat that decides not to following the path their parents chose for them, or a rag-tag Maquis crew fighting against dire odds, or the Mirror Universe Terrans throwing all they have at the Alliance, or whatever else you can think of.

July/August Challenge: Contest

The writing challenge theme is: Contest. Any Star Trek series, era, canon, non-canon, ships, crews or characters welcome.

September / October 2023 Writing Challenge

Any Trek / Any Characters / Any Time Period. Any Sort of Haunting (Actual Ghosts or Treknobabble Pseudo Haunting or Scooby-Doo Dude in a Mask). Any Ship or Space Station.'

November/December Challenge: Reunion

Any ST era, canon or your own creation. The reunion theme can be a happy, awkward, or sad event - your choice.
