The Unreliable's Light

The Unreliable's Light (TUL) is a fan fiction series set in an alternate 2360s (beginning in the year 2364) centering around the non-starfleet crew of the Unreliable, a ship thought lost by Starfleet 60 years prior and modified by this new crew. The format is in 7 chapter 'episodes', being released on Archive Of Our Own.

Overview

Initially conceptualised as a non-Star Trek story by Fateweaver in January 2023, it developed into a Star Trek fan fic over time due to the other author 0Devoid's growing interest in Star Trek. Development was slow initially, with focus being on other things. However, focus was soon redirected to The Unreliable's Light, with the entire first episode and the first two chapters of the second episode uploaded on October 28th of that year.

The Unreliable's Light takes place in an alternate timeline created by the loss of the USS Enterprise and the recovery of the USS Defiant during the encounter with the Tholians. In this alternate 2360s, the Federation has been split due to a group of people disagreeing with the Khitomer Accords, with a group known as the Anti-Khitomer Protesters wanting to return to the days of fighting the Klingons. Federation Space has been split thanks to this, with the Alpha Quadrant most affected.

Despite the main split having happened in 2268, events prior have been mentioned or seen. Such as the opening chapter of Episode 1 being set 150 years prior on the USS Light of Man or a flashback during the penultimate chapter of Episode 3 to the NX-01.

Main Cast

• Captain Breezie McKormic: The human commanding officer of the Unreliable with mysterious Chronokenetic 'pausing' powers that only trigger under times of severe stress. A distinct feature of her is her orange eyes.
• Alex Brine: The seemingly human first officer of the Unreliable that (despite seeming blind) has an extrasensory form of vision.
• Gary Calces: The human chief engineer of the Unreliable, after a warp core breach on his previous assignment, he is presumed to be dead.
• Sutaba Kigyō: The Saiyan tactical officer who has abandoned his kind's battle hungry ways soon before joining the ship.
• Andy Prince: The human helmsman of the Unreliable, abandoned by his old crew soon after meeting Breezie.
• Fiora Sweetheart: The puppet chief of operations of the Unreliable, often serving as a secondary engineer if Gary is away.
• Devoid: The mobian hedgehog who plays a number of roles on the ship, such as counsellor or navagations officer, but mostly serves as the strategic operations officer.
• Sally Sillington: The toon communications officer of the Unreliable, also the princess of a kingdom known as Rotoscope.
• Wally Darling: The puppet science officer of the Unreliable, recruited to the ship by Sally during the 3rd episode, he assumes the role of the science officer sometime after.
• EMH Mark 0.82: The prototype medical hologram who is the chief medical officer of the Unreliable.
• Johannah Jackson: A Mobian Sheep transferred from the USS Excelsior with an ability to see and talk with spirits who serves as the navigation officer.
