The UES Cypress (FR-256) was a Durance-class transport in United Earth Stellar Navy (and later United Earth Starfleet) service during the mid-22nd century. Beginning in 2157, the non-modified Durances (now flagged as UESS, for "United Earth Space Ship") began to be upgraded in response to the combat sectors they often crossed. Plasma cannons were replaced with 300 MW laser turrets, with a range of 230 nautical miles and the ships were protected by an electromagnetic shield, polarizable armor (on the forward hull and sections of the aft), and twin navigational deflectors on the ventral forward hull.(Star Fleet Starship Recognition Manual: Report #293: Durance Transport)
