USS Arcturus (NCC-1337) (formerly USS Fort Hunt) was a Baton Rouge-class cruiser on active duty in Starfleet during the early- to mid-23rd century. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station, Star Trek: Avenger)

History[]

In 2242, she was commanded by Ismail Supriyanto as the lead ship of Confrontation Group Aleph at the Battle of Donatu V. ("The USS Arcturus in History", Star Trek: Avenger: "Belonging", Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: Timeline)

The first posting of Elena Mendenhall Justice after Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Marine training was as a second lieutenant assigned to the 136th Marine Strike Group embarked aboard Arcturus. Justice would serve aboard Arcturus for ten years, from 2236 to 2246. (Tales of the Seventh Fleet: "Doing Justice to the Name, Part One")

Nomenclature[]

On commissioning, the ship was named Fort Hunt, after Fort Hunt, Virginia, in North America on Earth. In 1897, Fort Hunt had been built on the banks of the Potomac River to defend Washington, D.C. from naval attack. It later became a public park.

The ship was renamed after Arcturus (also known as Alpha Böotis), a spectral class K1.5 III red giant star about 36.7 light-years from Earth, as well as other ocean- and space-going ships named Arcturus.

By coincidence, Arcturus was also the name of a neighborhood within the municipality of Fort Hunt in the 20th and 21st centuries.
