In 2270, Captain Cartwright was in command when Ark Royal intercepted a distress call from Sepel, a Vulcan ambassador to Nidrus Gamma. He and the crew of the ship curtailed a Klingon attack on the planet, and rescued the ambassador's daughter, Valeris. (TOS novel: Cast No Shadow)
