USS Asimov was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser on active duty in Starfleet during the 23rd century. (Decipher RPG: Starfleet Operations Manual)

The Decipher RPG had the registry as NCC-1691, while the Starfleet International chapter had NCC-1647, which conflicted with the Greg Jein number registry for Farragut.

In 2254, Valiant was refitted to test the duotronic computer and was renamed Asimov. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

As duotronics, developed by Richard Daystrom, had been installed on Valley Forge-class and Constitution-class starships in the previous decade, this might have been an upgraded duotronic system.

In 2255, the Asimov under the command of Captain Gan Laikan and its mostly Centaurian crew undertook a ten year period of exploration during which it set the record for the most Class M planets discovered by a single vessel. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

The Asimov was again refitted in 2272 and served for a further 21 years before it was decommissioned. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

In 2298, Asimov was recommissioned and placed under the command of Captain Lessem. It was deployed to the Starfleet Seventh Fleet. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Shakedown of the U.S.S. Hathor"/"War Crimes, a New Beginning")

Nomenclature[]

The ship was named after the American science-fiction author and futurist Isaac Asimov (1920-1992).

Fan organizations[]

The USS Asimov was also a chapter of Starfleet International, from 27 February 1997 (STARFLEET Vessel Registry, May 2011) until the late 2000s, based in Yardley, Pennsylvania. It changed its fictional metaphor at least once.
