USS Avalon (NCC-85283)

The USS Avalon (NCC-85283) was a Pendragon-class Federation starship launched in 2382 from Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. (Star Trek: Pendragon)

History

On her shakedown cruise, the Avalon was commanded by Captain Jonathan Styles After a rendezvous with the USS Pendragon, Commander Russell Twining temporarily transferred to the Avalon to assist with the shakedown. After a short time, he was forced to assume command when Captain Styles' erratic behavior threatened innocent lives.

Over the objections of Admiral Alynna Nechayev, Twining was promoted to Captain and granted permanent command of the Avalon. His friends Josh Hofmann and Ben Riniker transferred with him, as chief engineer and security chief, respectively. (PDN: "Avalon, Part I", "Avalon, Part II")

The Avalon's initial assignment was near the Tholian border, though by late 2383, the ship was on patrol near the Romulan Neutral Zone.

In late 2383, the Avalon was involved in a disastrous battle with several Romulan warbirds in the Triangle region and sustained heavy casualties, including Security Chief Riniker and conn officer Barthol Mat. (PDN: "To Face the Gathering Storm", "As Darker Grows the Night")

Two years later, the Avalon participated in the Battle of the Badlands, helping to defend the Colonial Alliance from invasion. (PDN: "Promised Land", "Above the Wrecks of Time")
