The USS Barnard (NCC-62046) was a Rigel-class heavy scout in service to the Federation Starfleet in the 24th century.
Between 2367 and 2373, the Barnard was assigned to scout/response duties in the Bajor sector. Early the following year, she was destroyed by the Jem'Hadar. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet)
Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after Barnard's Star, a red dwarf star, spectral class M4, approximately 6 light-years from the Terran star Sol. It is the fourth-nearest star to Sol, after the three stars of Proxima Centauri, Alpha Centauri A, and Alpha Centauri B.
