The USS Belknap (NCC-2501) was a Belknap-class strike cruiser on active duty in Star Fleet during the late 23rd century. She was commissioned on 7 February, 2274 (after being laid down at Boston Shipyards on Earth 21 October, 2271, and launched on 9 January, 2273).
Home ported at Starbase 16, Belknap deployed from there on 3 March 2289 for an operational cruise, beginning with her participation in exercise Venture Corridor, held in the Kay Akai region from 15 March until 9 May, which saw the introduction of the TS-675 'Storm' long-range assault craft. A port visit to New Springfield at Alpha III on 27 May was followed by a three-week operational readiness exercise. Following a port visit to New Sacramento on Deneva, the Belknap departed on 16 July, accompanied by the frigates USS Coventry and USS Indus, and the heavy frigate USS Illustrious for operations outside Federation treaty territory.
