USS Buran (NCC-57580)

The USS Buran (NCC-57580) was a Federation Challenger-class light cruiser in service to Starfleet in the 24th century.

Captain T'Sara was a project supervisor of the construction team at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards during the Buran's assembly between 2365 and 2367. (Star Trek: Courageous)

In 2367, the Buran participated in the Battle of Wolf 359 and became one of 39 starships to be destroyed by the Borg. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II"; Star Trek Encyclopedia) T'Sara was her temporary commanding officer during the battle, which she survived. (Star Trek: Courageous)

Nomenclature

The ship was named after Buran, the Soviet/Russian spaceplane program of the late 20th century, and the first vessel of the program. Buran is "snowstorm" or "blizzard" in Russian.
