USS Clark (NCC-3898) was a Ptolemy-class transport/tug on active duty in the 23rd century. (Star Fleet Technical Manual)
As a midshipman first class at Starfleet Academy in 2289, Christopher Bellamy was assigned to Clark for his training cruise. The ship developed an antimatter containment failure, however, and was destroyed. Bellamy and several others were on a landing party, and survived until they could be retrieved by the USS Excalibur. A senior officer who survived the destruction of the Clark was its executive officer, Commander Smith. (Star Trek: Avenger)
Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after Alvan Graham Clark (1832-1897), a American astronomer and telescope-maker. He was the first Terran to make an observation of a white dwarf star.
