The USS Dauntless (NCC-80210) is an Intrepid-class Federation starship in service during the 24th century. (Starship Dauntless)

The starship Dauntless was commissioned in July 2379. Commander Aaron Wright took temporary command until the Dauntless was assigned to the Kursican sector in April 2380. At that time Captain Leza Astar, a joined Trill, took command at Starbase 535 in orbit of Kursica (or Kursican), a planet previously visited by the crew of the USS da Vinci four years earlier.

Much of the technology incorporated in the Dauntless was actually designed by Captain Kathryn Janeway while the USS Voyager was stranded in the Delta Quadrant after encountering the false Federation starship USS Dauntless (NX-01-A). When the USS Voyager returned to Earth in 2378 and Janeway became an admiral, her designs and upgrades were shelved.

In early 2379 the new production run of Intrepid-class starships were released from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and the USS Dauntless (NCC-80210) was the first of these. Among the upgrades included phaser strips on the variable geometry nacelles, a combined stellar cartography and astrometrics laboratory and a prototype sensor array, the Sensor Probe Reconnaissance Array Network, SPRA in Starfleet parlance.

The USS Dauntless was assigned to the Kursican sector in April 2380 for a twofold mission; to assist Starfleet's colonization efforts, and to discover who was responsible for the kidnapping of two Federation civilians on the colony of New Tokyo. Upon arrival, Captain Leza Astar learned that hundreds of other people from dozens of races had also been kidnapped from around the sector. While investigating the disappearances, the crew of the Dauntless learned about a mysterious race called the Cha'lav who had been seen around for many years testing and probing. ("The Pebbles Seas Parts 1 & 2")

After preventing the Cha'lav from causing war, the crew of the USS Dauntless returns to Starbase 535 for shore leave. ("The Little Things in Life")

On their way to return Rashal to his people, the Eeroth, the Dauntless must first traverse the region known as the Kursican Badlands, a place haunted by a dangerous creature that figures in the myths of most local cultures. Instead of a myth, Captain Astar finds a mother and her young being hunted by the Cha'lav and a plot to remake our galaxy in their image. ("Burning Ring of Fire")
