USS Diponegoro (NCC-5322) was an Abbé-class destroyer on active duty in Starfleet during the late 23rd and early 24th centuries. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station)

Diponegoro was commissioned in 2290, with Capt. Sabrina Moyet as her first commanding officer (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Heritage"). In 2292, Larisa el-Ibrahim transferred off USS Avenger to become executive officer on Diponegoro under Captain Moyet. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Tales of the Kobayashi Maru: Rahadyan's Story")

Delegations from Shadowstar Station, as well as the starships Aceh, Corregidor, Lucid, Helin, Jayapura, Avenger and Diponegoro, attended the Zancmar Hodgkins Memorial Xenosociological Conference on Avalon in August, 2295. Raden, a Section 31 operative, also attended the conference, in the guise of a professor from the University of Makropyrios. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Avalon")

In 2300, at the end of her second five-year mission as CO of Diponegoro, Moyet was promoted to fleet captain and was reassigned elsewhere. Cmdr. el-Ibrahim was promoted to captain and became Chief of Staff at Starbase 10. Ilse Giordano, the second officer, was promoted to commander and first officer.

Starfleet held a tactical simulation, Exercise Vermilion Victorious, on the surface of Beta Miranda V in early 2301. Among the ships and stations who sent teams to participate were Ajax, Diponegoro, Fearless, Pandora, Shadowstar Station, Starbase 10 and T’Varian.

While patrolling the disputed Federation-Tholian border in 2308, a task force that included Diponegoro was engaged by a squadron of Tholian vessels. The lead vessel of the task force was destroyed and another ship disabled. Among the casualties was Diponegoro's Captain Schieman; Cmdr. Giordano assumed command. The squadron of Tholian vessels were heavily damaged with only one ship managing to return to its homespace. Upon return to Starbase 10, Giordano was granted command of the destroyer.

Among the Federation vessels lost or destroyed during the Tomed Incident of 2311 were USS Agamemnon (TLE novel: Serpents Among the Ruins, STA novel: Progenitor), USS Star of Izar, USS Radetsky, USS Thurlefth (Star Trek: Thagard: "A History of the USS Thagard"), USS Denpasar and USS Diponegoro.

About 50 years later, another destroyer was named USS Diponegoro.

Nomenclature[]

The ship was named after Diponegoro, a Javanese prince of the 19th century, who led the Java War (1825-30) against Dutch forces. There was a class of corvettes in the Indonesian navy named after the prince in the early 21st century.
