The USS Eagle (NCC-1697) was a Constitution-class starship, active in the Federation Starfleet, under the command of Captain Thoran, an Andorian. (Star Trek: Phase II)

At some point in the early 2260s, the ship went through a wormhole caused by a problem with its dilithium crystals and was hurled into unexplored space. It was then reported lost with all hands. Eight years later, the ship was found by the USS Enterprise under Captain Kirk. The Eagle was under control of a previously unknown alien race, the Meskans that had upgraded it. The tyrant Alersa had adopted it as her flagship. As a result, the Peshans race saw all vessels of the Eagle's class as hostile, including the Enterprise. ("Enemy: Starfleet")
