The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) operated as a US Navy aircraft carrier in the 20th and 21st centuries. It was the second US carrier to bear the name, meaning "Boldness, Energy and Invention in Practical Affairs" (Naval Historical Center).
On 25 November 1961, three years after the previous carrier named Enterprise's scrapping, the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) was commissioned, making it one of the most powerful ships of its time and the first carrier on Earth powered by a nuclear fission reactor.
While docked at the Alameda Naval Base in Alameda, California in 1986, Starfleet officers Pavel Chekov and Nyota Uhura infiltrated the Enterprise to gather nuclear radiation from a reactor to recrystallize dilithium for their captured Klingon Bird-of-Prey. The recrystallization would allow Chekov, Uhura and their crew to return to the 23rd century. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
Aboard the Enterprise (NX-01), Captain Jonathan Archer's ready room boasted a sketch of the carrier Enterprise. (Star Trek: Enterprise)
The USS Enterprise-D's observation lounge wall displayed a model of the carrier Enterprise along with other ships named Enterprise. (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
