The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) was a Galaxy-class Federation starship in service during the latter half of the 24th century. Launched from Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in 2363, under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. She was the fifth Federation starship to bear the name, and the flagship of Starfleet throughout her lifetime. (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

History[]

From 2364 to 2371, the Enterprise-D's mission profile included diplomatic functions, rescue missions, scientific research, and especially exploration, boldly going where no one had gone before.

During that period, her crew made numerous first contacts, including those with the Q Continuum, the Ferengi Alliance and the Borg Collective. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint", "The Last Outpost", "Q Who", et al.)

Unfortunately, the Enterprise was destroyed by renegade Klingons at Veridian III in 2371. (Star Trek Generations)

In the thirty years following the incident at Viridian III, Geordi La Forge (now the Curator of the Fleet Museum) slowly reconstructed the Enterprise-D over a period of twenty years. It was pressed into service in 2401 (as the last Starfleet vessel not connected to the new Fleet formation mode computer network) to stop a Borg attack on and invasion of Earth. (PIC: "Võx", "The Last Generation") It was aided by a fleet of ships registered to the Scarlett Army, who had helped the Enterprise-D save the multi-verse thirty years before. (Golden Voyagers, Masters of the Ultimate Power)

Lt. Commander Tricia Robinson served aboard the Enterprise-D. She transferred to the USS Paragon as executive officer in early 2371. (The UFP Connection)

Alternate timelines[]

In an alternate future where Enterprise was not destroyed at Veridian III, the ship was upgraded and refit to a three-nacelle configuration. This occurred sometime between 2371 and 2395. (TNG: "All Good Things...")
