USS Excalibur (Avalon Universe)

The USS Excalibur (NCC-1705), infamously known as "The Ghost Ship" to Human Starfleet officers, was the sixth Constitution-class heavy cruiser built by Starfleet in the Avalon Universe. (Avalon Universe)

Excalibur earned a unique reputation as being a death trap due to the number of crew members killed while serving aboard. In 2268 its entire crew was killed during the M5 Computer battle. Before the ship's refit could even be completed, the ship's new Captain, Derek Mason, was apparently killed in a shuttle accident involving trilithium resin ("Avalon Lost"), after which Captain Lance Ramirez was chosen to command the ship. The ship was only out of spacedock for a few days before being severely damaged in a conflict with rogue Klingons, resulting in the deaths of several crew members including the apparent death of newly minted Chief Engineer Jamie Archer. Following the disappearance of Captain Lance Ramirez and First Officer Amanda Beck in early 2271, Commodore Imari Jakande was assigned to command the ship. ("Agent of New Worlds") By this time, Human Starfleet officers were reluctant to serve aboard the ship, and it was disproportionately crewed by non-human species.
