The USS Hainan (NCC-68069) was a Federation Akira-class heavy cruiser in service during the late 24th century.
Hainan was brought in for a refit in October 2375. Captain Roger Decatur was transferred from the USS Ticonderoga at the start of the refit. (USS Baldwin: "Only the Young") Roslyn transferred with him as part of the refit, eventually becoming the chief engineer when the Hainan returned to service. (USS Baldwin: "Departure," "Frontiers")
In June 2377, around Stardate 54098, the Hainan picked up the escape pods from the USS Nimitz after a compromised system forced the Nimitz crew to abandon ship. (USS Baldwin: "Backdoor")
At the end of August of 2377, Stardate 54300.5, the Hainan assisted the USS Ottawa in protecting a Cardassian freighter. During the engagement, a "warbug" deliberately rammed the Hainan, resulting in significant damage. Out of 435 crew members, 256 survived and were picked up by the Ottawa. An after-action report prepared by USS Baldwin legal affairs officer Sara Jackson confirmed that no wrongdoing occurred by the crew of the Hainan or the Ottawa (USS Baldwin: "Slow Burn")

The Hainan was named for the Chinese island that hosted an international incidnet in April 2001, when "Only the Young" was first written.
