USS Hood (NCC-1703) was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in Starfleet service during the second half of the 23rd century.
Commissioned in 2259 and commanded by Captain Jack Raintree, it was the first starship equipped with phasers. (Orion Press: "Remember the Hood")
In 2268, the Hood participated in a fleet war games exercise. This exercise put four starships against the M-5 controlled USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). The M-5 malfunctioned, causing the Enterprise to fire full-powered phasers at the minimally-defended Hood, severely damaging the ship. (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer")
- It remains unclear if this Hood was able to be reconstructed and reused, or if the damage was too widespread for repairs to be made. It also remains unclear if her crew survived.
