The USS Joan of Arc (NCC-73289) was a Galaxy-class, Joan of Arc-subclass, dreadnought in Federation Starfleet service during the 24th century. The Lady J (as she was nicknamed) was deployed to the Starfleet Third Fleet during the Dominion War.

The ship's first commanding officer was then-Commodore James Van Cleave.

A cloaking device was added to the Lady J's defensive systems near the beginning of the Dominion War, thanks to an "unofficial" tactical technological exchange with members of the Klingon Defense Force. Damages to the system, however, resulted in its use as a distortion field that would displace the apparent position of the ship by several degrees and confuse enemy targeting systems.

In 2374, under orders from the Third Fleet's commander, Admiral Michelle Fanelli, Joan of Arc undertook a lengthy, covert mission to destroy shipping and targets of opportunity in Cardassian/Dominion space.

After the war, command transferred to Captain Kryss Th'Dabie. Joan of Arc was reassigned to the Home Fleet and served as a Starfleet Academy training vessel. In 2377, Fleet Captain Robin Van Cleave took command. She was in command during the Borg Invasion of 2381, when much of the Alpha Quadrant was decimated by an all-out, apocalyptic attack by the Borg. Joan of Arc and several other large vessels were tasked with escaping with Federation officials and refugees should Earth fall. Fortunately, the Caeliar/Borg ascension made that exodus unnecessary. The Borg Invasion and the Caeliar/Borg ascension are from the Star Trek: Destiny novels.

Nomenclature[]

The subclass and ship were named after Joan of Arc (1412?-1431), a hero of the nation-state of France on Earth.

As well, she was named after an Ambassador-class heavy cruiser, USS Joan of Arc, which was lost at the Battle of Sector 001 in 2373.

Fan organization[]

USS Joan of Arc was also a chapter of Starfleet International, based in Corpus Christi, Texas, and founded 15 May 1993. The current (2021) chapter president is Robert Velasquez.
