USS Lysander (NCC-540) was a Saladin-class destroyer in Federation Starfleet service during the 23rd century. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)
In 2269, Lysander's commanding officer was Mohammed Tafari. One of her communications officers had the surname Tabakow. That year, the ship was undergoing a benchmark survey near the Gamma 7A system. (TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
Lysander discovered a rich source of dilithium in the Poranis system in 2285. It was engaged by a B'rel-class light warship to prevent Lysander from reporting its find back to Starfleet Command. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)
In June, 2290, the Lysander and the USS Cochise surprised Klingon renegades with an ambush, thanks to a scheme by an officer from the USS Oriskany, Matthew Rielly. Oriskany had been escorting the transport USS Ptolemy.
Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after a Spartan navarch (admiral) of the 5th century, B.C.E., who helped bring about an end to the Peloponnesian War, on Earth.
