The USS Malta was one of two Puerto Rico-class runabouts embarked on the USS Witch of Endor, and one of 30 Puerto Rico-class runabouts in Starfleet service in 2410. As well as being the fastest ship of its size at the time, it also was equiped with a Romulan cloaking device. (Chronicle: "Best Laid Plans", "Homecoming")
Aboard the Malta in 2410, Lieutenant junior grade Zachary Stiles and Ensign Nath Behal rendezvoused with the Starfleet Academy training vessel USS Persephone to pick up fellow crew members Ensigns Athena Azurian and V'Nell, en route to their new assignment aboard the Witch of Endor. After departing the Persephone, the Malta was forced to divert to the Vulcan colony Fa-do-far so V'Nell could participate in the Re-Convergence of the pieces of her grandfather Skovaan's katra.(Chronicle: "Best Laid Plans", "Homecoming")
