USS Miranda was the prototype of the Miranda-class light cruisers.

The Miranda Class Cruiser General Plans gives its registry as NCC-1833, while Lawrence Miller's Starship Recognition Files 1 has the registry as NCC-21861.

Alternate continuities

Star Trek: Avenger

In this continuity, the Mirandas are distinct from the Avenger-class heavy frigates, not identical. The first new-build Mirandas were built and deployed c. 2283, decades after the Surya-class frigates that were the precursors of the Avengers.

38589 Years Difference

The Miranda had been visited by Admiral Talunas a week before the Babel Conference of 2268.

In a possible far future, the Miranda was part of a Space Hulk, a vast collection of derelict ships that had become a stellar landmark in its own right. To deal with this, the Eldar had duplicated the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and crew and brought either the duplicate or the original into the future to restore the Miranda before it fell into the hands of Chaos. After the resulting battle, the Miranda was still functional despite the damage sustained. (38589 Years Difference)

Background information

This class of ships was named after a dynastic Starfleet family who were mostly engineers. (TNG novel: The Best and the Brightest)
