The USS Odyssey designation was assigned to a Sovereign-class vessel under construction at San Francisco Fleet Yards in the mid-2370s. It was so named in honor of the Galaxy-class Odyssey, which was lost to the Dominion in 2370.

The Sovereign-class Odyssey was near completion in November, 2378, but no permanent registry number had as yet been assigned. (Star Trek: Liberty)

Nomenclature[]

The ship was named after the Odyssey, one of two epic poems (circa 8th century, B.C.E.) attributed to Homer, on Earth, as well as other sea- and starfaring vessels, usually of Earth registry.
