The USS Phoenix (NCC-65420) was a was a Nebula-class Federation starship. It was commissioned on stardate 40250.5, (2363) - where it would come under the command of Captain Benjamin Maxwell four years later.

History
In 2367, Captain Maxwell turned vigilante with the Phoenix, destroying several Cardassian outposts and ships in belief of conspiracy by the enemy. Thanks to the Enterprise, he was convinced to stand down. (TNG: "The Wounded")
In 2369, a Captain Daniel took temporary command of the Phoenix in Maxwell's absence. He played an on-again and off-again role as Captain of the ship whenever one was unavailable over the next few years. (PNX)
In 2370, Daniel took another temporary command on the Phoenix and docked it at Starbase 01 for a short time. (FF: "The Recruited")
In 2372, a Captain Terry had taken command of the Phoenix and brought it into war with the Klingon's. Unfortunately, he was taken out quickly, and left in a condition unable to return to duty. The Phoenix was near to destruction, but rebuilt at starfleet shipyards. (PNX: "New Beginnings")
In 2373, after the ship was refitted, Captain Daniel took a more strong-hold command of the Phoenix. A Klingon-Exchange program was implemented on the ship - where a good portion of the crew were Klingon Officer's from the IKS Bochnah. This would mean, a good protion of Starfleet Officer's would be posted on the Bochnah. (PNX: "Betrayal and Honour")
In 2374, 9 months later, Daniel brought the Phoenix to the Tiloniam System to do battle with rogue Dominion vessels. The Phoenix was badly damamged, forcing the crew to evacuate and relocate at Deep Space 9. Shortly thereafter, most of crew and the Captain were all transferred to a USS Phoenix-X - a highly experimental and classified starship. (PNX: "The Tiloniam System")
In the following month, the Phoenix would be relaunched with a full Starfleet crew compliment.
In 2381, a Captain Malone would take command and attempt to have the Phoenix refitted into a Mondo class vessel. Unfortunately, the ship's refit would not last long, and be returned to its former Nebula class. Malone was soon transferred to another vessel within a week of the refit; opening command up for whomever was previously in command, or whomever was next. (PNX: "New Beginnings")
