The USS Potemkin (NCC-18253) was an Excelsior-class Starfleet starship in service during the 24th century.

Then-Lieutenant Puto was assigned as a junior tactical officer aboard the Potemkin until the senior tactical officer's retirement in 2349, when Puto took that position. (Star Trek: Unity)

Sometime prior to Stardate 38172.84 (2360), Potemkin was under the command of Captain T'Cirya. She would hold command until her promotion to rear admiral in 2365. Commander Krystine Leone served as her executive officer from 2360 to 2365. (Star Trek: The Quarterdeck Breed: "Farragut", Star Trek: Full Speed Ahead: "Damn the Torpedoes!", Star Trek: Full Speed Ahead: "The Better Part of Valor")

Until 2367, the last Federation starship to be in contact with Turkana IV's failed colony was the Potemkin in 2361, where the colony's ruling cadres warned their crew any away team members to the colony would be killed. (TNG: "Legacy", Star Trek: Full Speed Ahead: "The Better Part of Valor")

William Riker was assigned to the Potemkin in the same year. During his time aboard, then-Lieutenant Riker and his away team evacuated scientists from the Nervala IV outpost. The dangerous energy distortion field threatening the planet caused a transporter malfunction, creating a duplicate Riker on Nervala IV's surface. The Potemkin unknowingly abandoned the duplicate Riker on the planet, while the original Riker gained a promotion to lieutenant commander. (TNG: "Second Chances"; DS9: "Defiant")

Like aboard the Enterprise-D, the Potemkin's officers held regular poker games. Riker took up the game so he could interact with his seniors; something Deanna Troi would remind him about with crew evaluations aboard the Enterprise years later. (TNG: "Lower Decks")

Riker positioned the Potemkin over a planet's magnetic pole, shutting down power, in order to confuse a hostile ship's sensors: an unconventional yet successful tactic. (TNG: "Peak Performance")

Neurogeneticist Dr. Toby Russell transported from the Potemkin to the Enterprise-D to assist Lieutenant Worf recover from a severe spinal injury in 2368. (TNG: "Ethics")

The Potemkin served as part of the Ninth Fleet around Bajor during the Dominion War. In 2374, she undertook repairs at Deep Space 9 with a few other Starfleet ships. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited")

Star Trek: Pendragon[]

In the Pendragon timeline's 2364, Timothy Sinclair and several other survivors from an unknown alien attack on the Cerberus were rescued by the Potemkin. During this time, Benjamin Riniker served as a security officer aboard the Potemkin. (Star Trek: Pendragon)

The Potemkin participated in Admiral James Leyton's fleet defending Earth against Operation Return during the Federation Civil War. (Star Trek: Pendragon)
