The USS Ptolemy (NCC-3801) was the lead ship and prototype of the Ptolemy-class starships that saw service in the 23rd century.
In 2269 the Ptolemy was presumed lost in the Delta Triangle trying to avoid an ion storm. In 2389, the USS Crusader found the Ptolemy and would bring her back to Starbase 140 intact. The crew was lost to a Zentradi cruiser that abducted them in a spatial anomaly inside the Delta Triangle. (Star Trek: Generation Fleet)

In this continuity, the Ptolemy was being escorted by the USS Oriskany in mid-2290. Matthew Rielly of the Oriskany devised a scheme that would deceive suspected Klingon renegades from attacking the Ptolemy -- and lead them into an ambush by the destroyers USS Cochise and USS Lysander.
