The USS Sacagawea (NX-74014) is a prototype Intrepid-class starship, commissioned on Stardate 47138 (February 2370) at the ship-yards in orbit around Earth. It is one of the earliest prototypes of this space frame, and was commissioned specifically for the purpose of testing the platform in deep space exploration contexts. (Into the Black)

Nomenclature

The ship was named after the indigenous American explorer Sacagawea (1788-1812).

• Cpt. Gaale Ixa, a Bajoran officer who served during encounters in the Federation-Cardassian War is the Sacagawea's Commanding Officer. In 2360, then-Commander Gaale served with distinction on the Excelsior-class USS Tecumseh as its executive officer. The Tecumseh was tasked with rescuing refugees from a dispute that broke out in contested space along the Federation-Cardassian border on the planet Salva II, where Ixa was raised.
• Cmdr. Tyzo Zh'ekinor, an Andorian officer who served with Gaale Ixa on the USS Tecumseh, is the Executive Officer of the Sacagawea. They also served with distinction on Salva II, commanding a rescue vessel attached to the Tecumseh that was shot down by Cardassian Union forces. As well as XO duties, Tyzo Zh'ekinor is also the ship's Chief Security Officer.
• Lt. Cdr. Seltar Riddat, a Cardassian refugee who was rescued from a peaceful mixed-race colony on the planet Salva II, a class-M planet in contested space on the Federation-Cardassian border, when it was attacked by the Obsidian Order, and subsequently invaded by militias under the control of Cardassian Central Command. They were initially rescued by then-Lieutenant Zh'ekinor, and then after spending time on Starbase 211, stowed away on the Tecumseh, where he was discovered by Tyzo Zh'ekinor trying to purloin a shuttlecraft. Gaale Ixa took it upon herself to give him flying lessons and discovered he had a knack for it. He was tested for admission to Starfleet Academy and became one of the first Cardassian Starfleet officers. Seltar Riddat is an expert pilot and is the Chief Flight Officer on the Sacagawea.
• Lt. Kee-Tenn, a Caitian, is the Chief Science Officer on the Sacagawea. He was inspired as a child to follow a life in Starfleet as a result of holonovels depicting the lives of great Starfleet captains such as James T. Kirk and Jonathan Archer. He is usually fairly quiet, but has a reputation amongst junior ranks as somewhat of a practical joker. He survived the destruction of the USS Bellerophon at the Battle of Wolf 359.
• Lt. Andris Grax, a telepathic Betazoid is the Chief Operations Manager of the Sacagawea. Grax was raised in a family of Bajoran diplomats, and found difficulties managing the cacophony of thoughts at diplomatic events. Andris is a talented engineer who spent most of her time during diplomatic star-travel with engineers quizzing them on how things worked.

• Lt. Cdr. Dulak, a Vulcan doctor is the unflappable Chief Medical Officer of the Sacagawea. Uncharacteristically for a Vulcan, he keeps a variety of lizards and non-venemous snakes as pets, and has significant expertise in the care of reptilian and reptiloid species.
