Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after San Juan, Puerto Rico, the capital and largest municipality of the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, on Earth.

San Juan was a chapter of Starfleet International based in Carolina, Puerto Rico, beginning in March of 2011.
The chapter is currently (2021) based in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
