USS Saratoga (NCC-1867) was a United Federation of Planets starship on active duty in Starfleet during the late 23rd century.

Per Ships of the Star Fleet, Saratoga had a registry of NCC-1892 and was a Cyane-class heavy frigate, the spaceframes of which were based on Avenger-class ships. The Star Trek Encyclopedia promulgates an incorrect NCC-1937, despite the registry's being visible in the film.

In the 2280s, Saratoga's commanding officer was Captain Alexander. The ship was patrolling Sector 5 near the Klingon Neutral Zone when it encountered an alien probe whose projected course would have as its destination the Sol system.

After repeated attempts to communicate with the probe, Saratoga's primary power systems were drained and it fell back to reserve power. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era states that the Saratoga was destroyed by the Whale probe.

In 2286, after the ship was repaired, command of the Saratoga was given to Captain Edward Stanfield. His first officer Leonin Amorek later became the ship's captain, after Stanfield took command of the new USS Valkyrie in 2294. (Star Trek: Valkyrie: "New Command")

Jeremy Quinn served as Saratoga's first officer and chief science officer for five years, then "retired" and spent ten years teaching warp theory at the Vulcan Science Academy. (Starship Deimos)

Commander Braxis served aboard the USS Saratoga as an ensign from 2290 to 2300. (Star Trek: Pioneer)

Before being posted to the USS Potemkin, Sara Rose Mallon had been an officer on Saratoga. (Project Potemkin: "Third Watch")

Nomenclature[]

The ship was named after the Battles of Saratoga -- 19 September and 07 October 1777 -- of the American Revolutionary War during Earth's 18th century.
