USS Sirius (NCC-1744) was a Constitution-class (Achernar subclass) heavy cruiser active in Starfleet through at least 2292.
Gregory Calkins, later a fleet admiral, commanded the Sirius at some point in the 2250s. (Star Trek II Biographies)
- In the continuity of Star Trek II Biographies, Lieutenant Spock was an assistant science officer on the Sirius under Calkins.
In the mid-2260s, Lieutenant Alisü Godibatz was chief of security aboard Sirius and evacuated the crew to a nearby planet during a Klingon attack before the ship was destroyed. (Starfleet Supplemental Communiqué 1:9)
- Sirius was presumably replaced by a namesake vessel of the same class and registry. As heavy cruisers of the Achernar subclass all had linear warp drive, which wasn't in existence until about 2270, the earlier Sirius would have had the then-extant PB-32 or similar warp nacelles.
During the late 2280s, Sirius was deployed to the Starfleet Seventh Fleet. Its commanding officer, until late 2286, was Captain Robert McDonough, Jr. (Starfleet International: USS Sirius, Starfleet Communiqué 17)

Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after Sirius, also known as Alpha Canis Majoris, a binary system consisting of the main-sequence star Sirius A (spectral class A0 or A1) and the white dwarf Sirius B (spectral class DA2). The system is 8.6 light-years from Earth.

Sirius was a chapter in the Middle Atlantic States in Starfleet International during at least the late 1980s. (Starfleet International: Scott A. Akers, et al., Master Genealogy: Starfleet Region 7) One of its chapter presidents was Robert McDonough, Jr. (Communiqué 17)
A later chapter of Starfleet International, founded c. 2015 and extant in 2021, is based in Horseheads, New York. Its chapter president is Marci Jansen.
