Star Trek Expanded Universe

The USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) was a Constellation-class cruiser in service from the late 23rd to mid-24th century. Jean-Luc Picard, prior to commanding the Enterprise-D, captained the Stargazer for a record 22 years, from 2333 until its loss in the Maxia Zeta system in (2355). (TNG: "The Battle")

Stargazer was one of the first block of Constellations whose contract was authorized in 2276. (Star Trek: The Original Series novel: Honor Blade). However, the ship was not commissioned until 2290. (Orion Press: Constellation-class Specifications)

In 2294, the Stargazer made first contact with the Nurathi. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

In 2302, it came to the aid of a merchant convoy that was under attack by who was believed to be Orion pirates. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

Vaggie Illario served aboard this ship during Picard's captaincy, learning not to be around him "when he hasn't had his Earl Grey yet". (The Unreliable's Light: DownVall)

In 2351, fresh out of the Academy, then-ensign Steve Tecklenberg was assigned to the Stargazer as a security officer. (Star Trek: Pendragon: "Wings As Eagles")

In 2355 of the TUL Timeline, the Stargazer detected an energy surge and heard laughter from the planet of Altamid to the confusion of the crew. (The Unreliable's Light: Old Freedom)

Picard remained friends with Moritz Benayoun, one of the Stargazer 's physicians, for over 45 years. (PIC: "Maps and Legends")

In 2364, after being presumed destroyed, the Stargazer was found and recovered by the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "The Battle") The ship was decommissioned shortly thereafter and preserved into museum status. She was ultimately succeeded by the Sagan class USS Stargazer (NCC-82893). Background information[]

The Stargazer was also a chapter of Starfleet International based in Kansas City, Missouri in the 1990s.
