The USS Thomas Paine (NCC-65530) was a New Orleans-class frigate that saw service with the Federation Starfleet during the 24th century.
By 2364, the Renegade was commanded by Captain Rixx. In that year the Thomas Paine rendezvoused with the USS Enterprise-D to discuss an alien infiltration of Starfleet Command. (TNG: "Conspiracy"; Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet)
In 2367, Jay Allan was assigned to the Thomas Paine as security chief. Two years later Allan took temporary command of the ship after the captain and first officer were killed during an attack on the ship by the Cardassians. (Kal-Dixas Spaceport)
In the 2380s, the Thomas Paine was part of the Starfleet Eighth Fleet. In 2382, the Thomas Paine, under the command of Captain Antonio Gonzalez, participated and was subsequently damaged in the Battle of Minark. (Star Trek: Pioneer: "Torment and Woe")
Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after the American revolutionary, Thomas Paine, most famous for his pamphlet Common Sense, which helped to provide the reasons behind the revolution for many of the soldiers in General Washington's army.
