The USS Ticonderoga (NCC-62926) was an Akira-class heavy cruiser that saw service during the Dominion War.
The Ticonderoga was one of the ships assigned to the squadron led by the USS Baldwin. The Ticonderoga took heavy damage in the offensive to retake Betazed on in mid-2375. During the battle, Lieutenant Shandy Rogers was the senior officer in the Engineering section when Main Power went off-line. She subsequently ordered Alex Wallace to do whatever it took to get main power online. He did, at the cost of his own life (USS Baldwin: "Determined Warrior").
Squadron commander Patrick Ingrum was concerned about the amount of damage taken by this ship but made sure that it was kept in service as long as possible. She was finally placed in drydock after her captain, Roger Decatur, ordered his ship to guard Baldwin. Laura Bennett served as Ticonderoga's flight controller until Captain Decatur recommended her transfer to Baldwin (USS Baldwin: "Bullseye")
Ticonderoga spent 3 months in Drydock undergoing a thorough refit. Captain Decatur left the Ticonderoga near the end of her refit to take over the seriously undermanned Hainan. Former Baldwin Chief engineer Karen Merrill replaced Decatur as commanding officer. Her first mission was to proceed to Ba'ku with an engineering crew for field installation of a new warp core and a diplomatic core to open relations with the Ba'ku. (USS Baldwin: "Only the Young")
Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after Ticonderoga, New York, in North America, the site of four famous battles -- taking place in 1758, 1759, 1775, and 1777 -- during Earth's 18th century.
