USS Vogel (NCC-3841) was a Ptolemy-class transport/tug on active duty in the 23rd century. (Star Fleet Technical Manual)
Captain Tirpak was the commanding officer of the Vogel in 2276, and Lieutenant Ilene Germain was assigned as an engineering officer. Germain served in an engineering-support role for a proving-mission/interstellar survey commanded by Alex Rosenzweig aboard the warpshuttle Endeavor. Tirpak was a man who emphasized schedule and order; he was not happy that Germain was being "borrowed" from him, thus disrupting both aboard the Vogel. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Star Survey")
Nomenclature[]
The ship was named after Hermann Carol Vogel (1841-1907), a Terran astrophysicist who pioneered the use of spectroscope in astronomy.
