It was assigned to Starfleet space station Federation Installation Nine.
On a mission to train personnel in new survival techniques, the Volga crashed landed on an uncharted planet. There were four Starfleet officers on board, Commanders D'Sefet and Thomas, Lieutenant Commander Jacobs and Doctor Selar. Commander Thomas was killed and the rest were stranded until rescued by the USS Bastet under the command of Security-Chief. While waiting for help, the group explored the planet, finding a group of humans descended from ones the Kzinti had brought there for hunting centuries previous.
