The USS Yorktown (NCC-38712) was a long range cruiser starship of the modified Galaxy-class built by the Federation Starfleet, commanded by Captain Janice Caldon in the 25th century. (Star Trek: Distant Horizons)

Star Trek: Excelsior[]

In 2375, the Yorktown was under the command of Captain Allan. Yorktown was investigating a dark matter nebula in the Delta Quadrant. The ship had discovered a vast area of destroyed Borg cubes, and Bluegill warships, numbering well over 20,000 destroyed vessels. An away team from the Special Projects Office of the Special Operations Division beamed over to one of the partially destroyed cubes. There they found Compound one-three-zero-three-eight-five, code-named: Beetlejuice. It was an inoculation against infestation by Neural parasite (24th century). As they continued their investigation, the away team (unintentionally) activated a set of Borg alcoves. They were able to cut power, but not before the Borg had identified them as Species five-six-one-eight human, sending out a burst transmission. It was enough to draw a swarm of twenty five Bluegill warships. Rather than beam back to the Yorktown and attempt to outrun the incoming ships, Lieutenant colonel Isaac Brahms, against orders, activated a hidden program he had implanted, destroying the Yorktown, and killing over 1000 Starfleet personnel, just to cover up their presence. (Star Trek: Excelsior - The Man from Syracuse)

Nomenclature[]

The Yorktown was named after the Siege of Yorktown (1781), the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War, on Earth during its 18th century.
