Vega, also known as Alpha Lyrae, is a main-sequence star of spectral class A0 Va. The system is 25 light-years from Earth.
The system contains one of the earliest Earth colonies established, the Vega Colony, located on the ninth planet of the system. By the 2250s, it was known for its extensive medical facilities. Captain Christopher Pike elected to go here to treat an Enterprise's landing party's injuries after a fight on Rigel VII rather than a closer facility elsewhere in the Rigel system or even Earth. As well, the Vegan Tyranny, a long-extinct interstellar empire, is thought to have been centered on Vega IX.
Vega X is also habitable. One of the indigenous species is the Vegan titanosaur. (TAS: "The Eye of the Beholder"; Orion Press: "Resurrection", Bloodlines)
