The Vidren class was a type of strike frigate that saw service with the Cardassian Guard during the 24th century. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 2: Starships of the Cardassian Union; The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
The class was designed by Glinn Hotar Peret who also worked on the Thalkar-class project. Peret wanted a ship similar in size to the Thalkar to be heavily armed but remain as maneuverable as a smaller frigate. It entered service two years after the Thalkar but became more popular than the heavy frigate
The Vidren resembled an archer's bow when viewed from above or below. It had a large, rectangular command hull with half crescent wings to either side giving it a short length and a very large beam. This earned it the nickname, jhelaret n'sheren, which means "the flying crescent moon". (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 2: Starships of the Cardassian Union)
