The Walker class was a type of starship in Starfleet service from the early to mid-23rd century. The class first entered service in 2221, and remained active well into the 2250s. By that time, the class was considered outdated, but still a solid workhorse. (Star Trek: Discovery)
- Star Trek Online refers to ships of this class as light exploration cruisers.
The most famous vessel of this class was the USS Shenzhou, whose disastrous contact with the Klingon Empire precipitated the Battle of the Binary Stars, and the Federation-Klingon War (2256-57). (DIS: "Battle at the Binary Stars", "Context Is for Kings", et. al)
- This class was designed by John Eaves, who named it after 20th century NASA test pilot Joseph A. Walker.
