Xenophobia is the fear, hate or mistrust of things or people foreign or alien to the sufferer. Some medical doctors believe xenophobia is a psychological condition, while others believe it to be a racist condition. People who suffer from this condition are known as xenophobes or xenophobic.

Several races have had encounters with xenophobia amongst their populations:

On post-Xindi-ravaged Earth in 2154, xenophobia was more prevalent, with non-humans being attacked and the radical Terra Prime movement gaining support. (ENT: "Home", "Demons", "Terra Prime")

After the Four Years War ended, the political movement Quattuor Anni (Latin for "Four Years") arose in the Federation, advocating a return to an overtly aggressive stance against the Klingon Empire. Among its numbers were Starfleet veterans and families of casualties of the war. (More Missions, More Myths 18: "Fatal Vision")

The Nailers were originally a pacifist group that advocated focusing more on Earth and the Sol system rather than the exploration and colonization of interstellar space. By the late 2260s, they had become terrorists under the public leadership of a human who called himself Heinrich Kramer; their activities included the torture and execution of non-humans. (Absolute Horizon)

The Terran Purification League was the latest iteration, and consolidation, of different generations-old Terranocentric organizations. Members believed that the influx of other species' genes into the "pure" DNA of Earth-born humans was an abomination. in 2298, members -- including David Vlekkenbaaij and Adam Lemuel -- assassinated a human Starfleet officer who was pregnant with the child of another officer of partly Betazoid and Deltan heritage. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "A Separate War")

The DominionEdit

The Dominion's foundation rested on xenophobia, based on the Founders mistrust of solid beings. (DS9: "The Search, Part II")

Cardassian UnionEdit

The Cardassians exploited their race's xenophobic tendencies by attempting to genetically alter soldiers to heighten this fear. The experiments failed, with the altered soldiers abandoned on derelict space station Empok Nor. (DS9: "Empok Nor")

Bajoran factions attempted to expel non-Bajorans through a campaign of terror. The campaign, however, failed. (DS9: "The Homecoming", "The Circle", "The Siege")

Bolarus IXEdit

The Bolian Isolationist Movement felt Bolians would lose their cultural uniqueness with Bolarus IX's involvement with the Federation and on-again, off-again conflict with the Moropa. Sometime after 2348, the Bolian Isolationists were exiled from their homes and founded New Bolarus. (Star Trek: The Cantabrian Expeditions: "Oh, What a Lovely War", "Howl")
