Zefram Cochrane in 2063.

Doctor Zefram Cochrane was a human scientist and engineer, known as the inventor of Earth's warp drive in the mid-21st century. He is one of the most important figures in both human and Federation history. (TOS: "Metamorphosis"; Star Trek: First Contact; TNG novel: Federation)

An artificially rejuvenated Zefram Cochrane in 2267.

Cochrane was born in 2032. (TOS: "Metamorphosis")

The novelization for Star Trek: First Contact suggests 2013, which would explain his appearance in the film.

In cooperation with Cochrane, the six extant L-5 colonies participated in a test of a stable subspace field in 2058. However, due to an unknown factor, all six disappeared and were presumed destroyed. (The Lost Era novel: The Sundered)

On 05 April 2063, Cochrane and Lily Sloane launched the first successful warpflight test from Bozeman, Montana, using elements of a Titan missile. (Star Trek: First Contact)

At a 2064 commencement address at Princeton University, Cochrane revealed that he had met "cybernetic creatures from the future." (ENT: "Regeneration")

Two years later, he would be part of an expedition to the Alpha Centauri system aboard the Charleston-class SS Pioneer. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

En route from Alpha Centauri to Earth in 2071, the Bonaventure -- with Cochrane aboard -- was the first Earth ship to encounter the Orions. ("Beverly Crusher Investigates: Riptide")

Cochrane disappeared, at age 87 ("Metamorphosis"), shortly after dedicating the Warp Five Complex. (ENT: "Broken Bow")

87 is the age recounted by Cochrane to James T. Kirk and an Enterprise shuttlecraft party, but if the 2013 birth year is held, he was 106 years of age.

Missing Link[edit | edit source]

Cochrane's equations for warp drive may have been plagiarized from a physicist named John Weatherly. Time travelers from 2393 travel back in time to 2053 to ascertain the truth.

Cochrane is said to be born in 2013, based on the Star Trek: First Contact novelization.

Over the Wall of Space[edit | edit source]

While the Vulcans tried to confine Terran space exploration, after 2063, to the Sol system, Cochrane and several friends and colleagues mounted a clandestine expedition to the Alpha Centauri system, aboard Bonaventure, in 2064.
