Star Trek Expanded Universe

Zeta was an android spider derived as a Crystal Spinner. He was about the size of a hand and often befriended humanoids. (Star Trek: 001, Star Trek: Starbase 001, Star Trek: Phoenix-X, Earth Spacedock)

History[]

In the early to mid 24th century, Zeta was built on Omicron Theta before leaving and jumping around, befriending bounty hunter after bounty hunter. ("The Bajoran Trove", "Archaeological Anarchy", "Alone")

24th century[]

In 2347, Zeta was travelling with Rikonen Gotens and helped him fight of Meloneus and a Cardassian contingent taking siege to the Keeper on Flortarios III at the beginning of the Federation-Cardassian War. There, Zeta temporarily paralyzed Meloneus and, after Gotens was time-displaced one last time, Zeta was left alone. ("The Bajoran Trove")

In 2381, Zeta was a compantion to Rune Sith and assisted in bounty hunting with him. After visiting a Romulan space station for information on a bounty for an Orion slave girl named Xienna, Zeta used the Jade Fox to open fire on the USS Columbia, before which they were successful in capturing her. After three months of pursuit, the Columbia caught up with the Jade Fox and imprisoned Sith, but not Zeta. (Star Trek: Starbase 001)

In 2393, Zeta was still on the Jade Fox, but this time with Arlene and BOK. When another artifact led to them to Covalesence in search of the Breen Amakun, Zeta took suggestions from BOB and Night Seifer of the USS Phoenix-X in opening the Ancient Breen doors that would later lead them to finding and releasing the Amaku entity. Shortly after, Zeta, Arlene and BOK escaped the Phoenix-X on the Jade Fox with what was left of the artifact. ("Archaeological Anarchy")

25th century[]

In 2410, after drifting from ship to ship, he was discovered by Captain Elric on Leora IV. When Elric fell into an underground tunnel, Zeta assisted him in looking for an exit. Instead, they discovered a subterranean ancient city. (Earth Spacedock: Page 60)

28th century[]

In 2752, Zeta was attached to and assisted another Rune Sith when the USS Pollux was on mission to seek out and recover survivors of the USS Domtar. ("New Beginnings")

When Starbase 001 began to experience intermittent, illegal file access, Sith tasked Zeta with tracking who was behind it. After some difficult system surfing and blowing the tertiary power circuits on Deck 12, Zeta tracked access to station panel 34-F8. ("The Last Place You Look")

Zeta began to malfunction and absentmindedly create metallic webs throughout The Deck when Starbase 001 was moved into an alien subspace domain. ("Alone")

When Rune Sith was away, trapped in a holoarena simulation of World War III, Zeta became bored and crawled around The Deck in search for him. There, he attracted two Letheans Matrix and Forbes who attempted to later steal Zeta in the corridors of Deck 7. As Sith was being released from the holoarena, he discovered and saved Zeta. ("When It Rains...")

In 2753, Sith and Zeta both stopped a time-displaced Harley Menrow duplicate from stealing a Bajoran orb. Zeta attacked Menrow by jumping onto his face. When Menrow decided to change his ways, Zeta assisted him in stopping an Alliance-member Takaran named Kebb from using the Orb of Summons to destroy the Earth. ("Second Life")

Sometime late into the Federation-Alliance War, Zeta, along with Sith, were crash-landed on Omicron Theta, where the new locals made changes to their structures. Zeta was given a program that allowed him to grow ten times bigger than what he was, making him able to become about the size of a chair. ("Scorpion's Descent")

In 2760, Zeta and Sith were abducted by androids and taken to Kintoka. After fighting the Wraith and discovering Julia, Zeta gives his blessing in Sith's decision to join Julia as non-corporeal beings with the rest of the Prophets. Zeta was left on Kintoka. ("Scorpion's Descent")

Features[]

Zeta has his own free will and responds like the computer does, with clicks and chirps. Somewhat like a parrot, within his click and chirps, he repeats the odd word of something someone may have said. Zeta has the ability to produce, by use of replication technology, metallic cables, the same way most spiders can make webs. These cables, however, are tripolymer composite; very strong. Zeta's systems are Version 6.0. Zeta can interface with consoles and computers through his legs and web-cables, but, he's typically only as advanced as current Federation technology.
